Modern industrial agricultural practices like chemical fertilizing and monocropping are decimating Earth’s fertile soils. At the current rate, all topsoils on the planet could be destroyed in as little as 55 years. As healthy soils underpin humanity’s access to food and nutrition, our approach must change to prevent devastating consequences for our food supply, national security, and future.
Soils cannot be replaced, but can be regenerated by changing how society grows food and manages lands. Adopting climate-smart practices with the goal of achieving truly Regenerative Agriculture can secure the sustainability of humanity’s future. This movement is about returning to natural systems from which food and livestock grow. Regenerative farming techniques have been used by Native communities across the globe for thousands of years, and are not new ideas.
